Alan M. Murray
CEO and Co-founder
Alan Murray is the CEO and Chairman of the Board. He founded Uncharted out of his apartment, bringing together its founding team from various regions of the United States. A journalist, editor, and photographer by training, Alan has earned numerous journalism awards and has a passion for working on long-term photojournalism projects. He regularly teaches workshops on leadership and teamwork, online reporting, and web project management for the Columbia Scholastic Press Association of Columbia University, where he also serves as a judge for the association’s national newspaper contest. Alan holds a Master of Professional Studies in Technology Entrepreneurship from the University of Maryland. He also holds degrees and certifications in journalism, Spanish, and Applied Project Management and is a licensed Project Management Professional (PMP)®. He enjoys hiking, snowshoeing, scuba diving, and camping. One of Alan’s goals as the CEO of Uncharted is to design, fund, and establish humanitarian projects focused on assisting less fortunate areas of the world. He resides in the Philadelphia, Pa. area.
Andrew E. Clark
Co-founder & UX Design Director
Andrew supervises the design, development, and branding of Uncharted's web, mobile app, and print products. He has lived in the United States and Brazil, is fluent in Portuguese and Spanish, and has traveled extensively across the world. He is an experienced senior designer and has worked for a variety of companies, publications, and nonprofit organizations, as well as several entrepreneurial successes, including Aunt Clara's Creations (www.pinkbunnypajamas.com) and Pixelpads. Andrew holds a Bachelor of Arts in Visual Communications from Weber State University. He's crazy about food and loves to hike, camp, and learn about new places and cultures. He lives in Kaysville, Utah.
Co-founder, Communications Director & Lead Geographer
Joseph is our expert geographer. He also oversees Uncharted's publicity, marketing, and organizational communications. Joe is fluent in Chinese Mandarin, has lived in the United States, Asia, and the Middle East, and has traveled to over 35 countries throughout Asia, Africa, North and South America, and Europe. He is a licensed Commercial Multi-Engine instrument-rated pilot and enjoys gliders and skiing. Joe was also a nationally ranked orienteering athlete in the United States. He worked as a media relations rep for the 2002 Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City. He holds a Master's degree in Geography from Western Michigan University, a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from Utah State University with minors in International Studies and Chinese, and a Master's degree in Chinese Studies from the University of Michigan. He is an officer in the United States Air Force with qualifications as an International Affairs Officer (China Regional Affairs) and Space Professional.
Co-founder & Chief Project Manager
John is Uncharted's Chief Project Manager. He has lived in the United States, Germany, China, and Southeast Asia. An expert engineer, John is named as an inventor on multiple international and domestic patents, and has managed projects constructing biofuel reactors in the United States, India, and China. He was instrumental in forming an EcoPartnership between the United States Department of State and China. His projects in Shanghai proved to be an international success, bringing many U.S. and Chinese officials together to discuss important international issues. John currently works for a major waste water company where he manages dozens of projects throughout the world. He is also an accomplished photographer and enjoys horseback riding, snowmobiling, and skiing. He hopes to someday use his talents to provide cleaner water for less fortunate parts of the world.
